Refer Your Patients for At-Home Sleep Testing

A simple pathway for naturopathic doctors

You're already treating fatigue, weight, mood, blood sugar and hormone concerns. When breathing during sleep is part of the picture, those protocols stall. NaviSleep offers multi-night, physician-interpreted home sleep testing so you can rule sleep-disordered breathing in, or out, before layering on more.

Explore Airway Evolution

Sleep isn't just rest. It's a root cause.

Quality sleep depends on continuity: moving through each stage, cycle after cycle, without being pulled out of it. Many things disrupt sleep, but poor breathing trumps them all.

When the airway narrows, carbon dioxide rises, oxygen dips and the work of breathing climbs. The brain responds with a survival reflex, a brief arousal to restore breathing. Repeated through the night, those arousals fragment sleep, often without the patient ever knowing.

Sleep-disordered breathing through an ND lens

Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is a spectrum, from snoring and increased upper-airway resistance through to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Wherever a patient sits on it, the effects reach nearly every system you treat:

  • Cardiometabolic: blood pressure, blood sugar and weight
  • Endocrine and hormonal: cortisol, insulin and sex hormones
  • Neuro and mood: focus, memory, anxiety and low mood
  • GI and reflux
  • Inflammation and immunity
  • Women's health: perimenopause and SDB overlap often, and conventional care routinely misses it

Consider referring patients with

  • Snoring or witnessed breathing pauses
  • Unrefreshing sleep or daytime fatigue
  • Morning headaches or dry mouth
  • Waking at night gasping, or often to urinate
  • Insomnia with a possible breathing component
  • Fatigue, weight or mood changes in perimenopause
